La Piana
Situated in the beautiful and unspoiled Val d'Orcia - known for its characteristic Calanchi, or erosion furrows, La Piana lies in a natural setting that in the past provided inspiration for great artists such as Giotto, Perugino and Pinturcchio.
The villa is located a few kilometers from the fortified medieval hamlet Monticchiello, where in recent years an interesting theatrical experiment called Teatro Povero , or Poor Theatre, has evolved.
This project involves all the village's inhabitants in a genre of theatre drawing from traditional themes and language of the local farming culture.
In spite of a growing interest in the area, both regarding tourism and the general economy, the fascination of these soft rolling hills, crowned by lines of cypress trees and by solitary homes, has remained miraculously intact.
Special efforts to insure the preservation of the area have included the establishment of the Val d'Orcia Natural and Cultural Park, with an abundance of nature trails, untouched wilderness and breathtaking landscapes.

La Piana, an ancient station post of the Via Francigena, is today its own small world waiting to be discovered. Built in stone, its imposing structure rests among hills surrounded by cultivated fields and woods. The villa's original and welcoming atmosphere is the result of a renovation in which everything from the choice of colors for the walls, to that of the furniture, was carefully studied.
A spacious terrace, furnished to accommodate guests during meals, offers a breathtaking view of the whole surrounding valley and of the town of Pienza.
Referred to as the "pearl of the Renaissance", Pienza is today one of the most important towns of the province of Siena, due to its artistic treasures and gastronomic specialties such as its famous sheep's cheese and preserves.
Furthermore, the surrounding area is dotted with medieval and Renaissance hamlets, abbeys, castles, hot springs and thermal spas that guests can easily reach and visit.
For those hoping, instead, to relax, enjoying unforgettable vistas, the swimming pool offers a peaceful spot from which to view the whole valley, perhaps while catching a sunset.

For those who prefer exploring their surroundings by foot or bike, there are paths and a private lake where one can fish.

Surely of no less interest are the many nearby vineyards and wine cellars guaranteed to please discriminating palates, where you can taste and acquire excellent red wines renowned world over such as the Nobile and Rosso di Montepulciano along with Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino.
