Poggiolaia

La Poggiolaia is an elegant hilltop farmstead, strategically positioned in the middle of the Golden Triangle - Florence, Siena and Pisa.
Just a few miles down the hill there is Certaldo Alto, the picturesque, walled medieval hilltop town renowned for being the birthplace of the poet and writer Giovanni Boccaccio, the author of the Decameron.

This thriving area of Tuscany called the Valdelsa, which gets its name from the river Elsa running through it, is characterized by its natural beauty and artistic and architectonic treasures.

In ancient times, this building was part of an agrarian estate and provided lodgings for sharecroppers serving local land owners.

La Poggiolaia (literally "hill of olives") takes its name from the vast groves of olive trees that surround it in every direction, and will impress its guests with stunning views of the gentle rolling hills that lead to the ancient towers of San Gimignano.

The green-grey of olives blends with the dark green of cypresses, creating a spectacular show of colours. Guests are free to stroll through the olive groves and adjacent vineyards, and sample the Chianti wines and olive oil produced by the family-owned farm.

Villa La Poggiolaia has 4 comfortable, elegant apartments and a lovely Capanna - a former barn transformed into a characteristic country house.

Every window of each villa lodging produces an incomparable view of the surrounding landscape. Each apartment has been meticulously renovated and personally furnished by the owners with precious original art and antiques in combination with all modern conveniences.

All the apartments have retained a charming ancient character due to the original antique furniture. Tuscan colored walls, terracotta floors, beautiful mirrors with gold-painted baroque frames create an atmosphere resonant with history and art.

As with the exterior, all the original materials have been preserved or harmoniously matched with contemporary equivalents during the restoration that some years ago converted this grand Villa into apartments.

The beautiful structure is surrounded by 10 hectares of terrain that guests can explore on foot, leisurely walking through the marvelous countryside.
The villa's garden is the result of careful study and design and is rich with colorful flowers, aromatic plants, climbing vines, trees and shrubs; it is the ideal spot for enjoying the peace and tranquility of the beautiful surroundings.

The apartments share a large and well-equipped swimming pool area that looks out over the valley. Here guests can enjoy the unforgettable panorama.
