La Rocca
Set in the heart of the wonderful medieval village "Monterchi" between Tuscany's and Umbria's countryside, La Rocca is situated in a peaceful area isolated from traffic but at the same time offers the comfort of a small village in total relaxation to
guests in an historic environment within view of the magnificent Cerfone valley. |
|
 |
La Rocca is a charming old stone house
with beams dating back to 1600 owned by the Marzocchi family since the 18th
century.
It has been totally restored by its actual owner Donatella Marzocchi.
A very
pretty private garden surrounds the house, offering delightful views from the ancient walls
of the original castle.
At the entrance there is an old well fed by rain water. |
|
There is an outdoor eating area and a cool grotto at the
very bottom of the garden.

It's an ideal spot to discover Tuscany/Umbria, Italy's heart of religion, art, environment and typical tuscan cuisine, that meet together to make your holiday one of a kind.
Brief history: La Rocca is what remains of the ancient castle of Monterchi, and the extensive estate which belonged to Anfrosina Tarlati in the XIV century. She lived in the castle until 1440 when the battle of Anghiari was fought. A fresco of the battle was painted by Leonardo da Vinci, in the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence.
This battle marked the end of the estate's importance. In successive years the castle suffered damage during many battles, and was finally destroyed in 1643, leaving only part of the fortress - La Rocca - and the remaining existing walls.
At the beginning of the 18th century it was bought by the Marzocchi family to use as a summer home away from the heat, plague and pestilence of their family holdings in Arezzo.
